How to check an AI answer about franchise brands
AI assistants answer franchise questions from what they find on the web. These checks show whether an answer came from the brand's own filing.
- Location counts and growth come from Item 20 of the brand's FDD. Ask which filing year each count came from.
- Required technology and suppliers come from Items 8 and 11. A brand's website or a press release rarely says whether owners may pick their own vendor. The filing does.
- Revenue per location comes from Item 19, and only if the brand chooses to disclose it. If the brand does not, any revenue figure for it came from somewhere else.
- Franchisors update the FDD every year, so a figure without a filing year cannot be compared with another brand's.
- Franchise rankings, directories and articles can repeat figures from an earlier year's filing.
- A list of the fastest-growing brands is only as complete as the set of brands compared. Ask how many brands the answer checked.
- Ask the assistant to quote the sentence in the filing behind each claim, and to mark anything it could not check against the filing.
FranCloud reads the filing itself and shows each figure with its fiscal year and Item, so every answer can be checked against the source.
